I’m Karla and I grew up in a small town surrounded by corn fields. After high school, I moved away to be the first in my family to attend college and eventually obtain my bachelor’s degree. During my time in college, I learned to step outside of my comfort zone. I studied abroad, participated in faculty research, and had a few internships that allowed me to work with students from similar backgrounds. Fast forward to today, I have a career that I am passionate about… helping students navigate the world of higher education!

What is your advice for a new student?

Don’t be afraid to try new things and meet new people!

What was your college major (and minor)?

Major: Latin American Studies

Minor: Journalism

Why did you choose your college major?

I chose Latin American Studies because I have always been passionate and curious about my own roots and others. It was a dream to have the opportunity to learn about the rich history and different cultures within Latin America.

What do you love most about UW-Stout?

I love that Stout has a laptop program for students. You get a laptop with all the software you need for your classes!?!?  ...AMAZING!

My favorite thing to do in Menomonie is…

My favorite thing to do in Menomonie, is check out the trails that run next to the Red Cedar River.  They are great on days when you need a little fresh air.

A random fact about me...

Instead of going to the beach, I’d rather be in the mountains. Two big ones I have hiked in are the Andes in Argentina and the Rockies in Colorado.
