Today is Veterans Day, a day of recognition established in 1954 by Congress to honor those who have served our country and to thank them for their sacrifices. Thank you to all of our students, employees and friends who have served our country in the armed forces. These individuals have helped preserve the freedoms that we enjoy today.

Our own Memorial Student Center is named in honor of university students, faculty and staff who have served their country. A Hall of Heroes on the lower level recognizes those who have died while serving.

Members of our campus community continue to serve our country through the Army National Guard, the Northwoods Battalion of the ROTC, and in other ways. Our Veterans Services office and Military and Veteran Resource Center in Bowman Hall are dedicated to supporting our student veterans. The quality of these services and the learning environment we create for our student veterans have contributed to UW-Stout being identified as one of the Best for Vets Colleges by the Military Times.

A little more than one week ago, an historic election took place in this country. Our veterans and active military personnel have been and continue to be instrumental in preserving our democracy. We owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude. Today, please take time to thank these individuals for their service as well as for what those before them have done for our country.
