It’s More Than a Job

Campus jobs help students connect now and prepare for later
December 4, 2020

At first glance, an on-campus job may seem like a good way for students to make extra money and have a flexible schedule. But for many students, it turns out to be so much more than that.

On-campus jobs provide students the opportunity to meet others, feel connected to campus and prepare them for a career. In fact, for students struggling to meet others, working on campus is one of the easiest ways to find a community.

If your student is interested in working on campus next semester, encourage them to explore options. Students can search CareerLink for open positions.

Some of our largest employers include University Dining, University Housing, University Library, Student Centers and Urec. These are departments that rely heavily on student employees to function and provide services to our campus community.

Even better than that, encourage your student to do a little networking. They can look for departments they are interested in and contact them to ask about job opportunities. On-campus supervisors always appreciate these inquiries, and it can give them a leg up if they are currently hiring.

Student employees are one of the many reasons our staff do what we do. They bring an energy to campus that is irreplaceable, and at the same time, they are gaining valuable skills that are preparing them for their future.
