Ask for Help
Don’t be afraid to ask when you are struggling. Your professors are here to help with coursework and counselors in the Counseling Center are here to help you through life.
Breathe
Life gets stressful and breathing helps. Set aside the books for 10 minutes and just take a few deep breaths to give yourself a little energy boost and to give your brain a quick break.
Communicate
Tell others how you are feeling. Sit down with a friend or your roommate and just talk about your day or catch up about your weekend.
Downtime
Take a break and enjoy something fun. Head to the library and play an array of games on generations of video game systems.
Eat
Your body cannot function, and your brain cannot think without food! Check out Where to Eat on campus and see what place is easiest for you to stop and grab a quick snack between classes.
Friends
It is important to not just focus on what needs to be done; go out and meet new people or have a good time with your friends.
Grocery Shopping
This pairs with letter E... eating! The Menomonie Market Food Co-op is within walking distance from campus. Stout also has a food pantry on campus that you can take advantage of.
Homework
Don’t procrastinate on your homework. Make your life easier by getting it done on time.
Independence
Don’t be afraid to do things on your own. Friends are great, but they are not always free to hang out. There are many local coffee shops and stores within walking distance from campus, so go for an adventure.
Jobs
Earn a little extra cash by getting an on-campus job that will provide you with real-world experience before you graduate. All on-campus jobs are posted on Handshake.
Kampus Events
Yes, we realize campus starts with a "C" (that English class is paying off!)! 😉 Attend sporting events, senior shows, and other campus events to support your fellow Blue Devils.
Laundry
It is not an enjoyable chore, but it needs to get done.
Movement
Get your body moving and go for a walk around the lake or hit the climbing wall in the Sports and Fitness Center
News
Stay up to date on what is happening on campus and important deadlines by reading Campus Life Today. Also, check out the news center to see the latest on all things Stout.
Organization
Make sure you stay organized, so you don’t accidentally misplace that important homework assignment.
Polytechnic
What sets UW-Stout apart from all other UW schools, the hands-on integrated experience. Do on day one!
Quiet Time
Take the time to decompress after a long day or week and enjoy some R&R. The MSC and Library both have great spots to sit and enjoy a bit of time to yourself. Go explore campus and find your favorite spot.
Relax
Grab a few friends or go on a solo mission to do something you find relaxing. Let your brain have a little break from studying and school.
Shower
Even though life is crazy it is still very important to keep up with your hygiene. We prefer a warm shower, but an ice bath also works.
Travel
Study abroad or plan a trip with friends over winter or spring break. Get out and see the world.
UV Light
Get outside and enjoy the fresh air. Sunshine will help boost your mood and relieve stress. Even during the winter months, you need that vitamin D, so bundle up and head outside to build a snowman or go sledding. Embrace your childhood!
Volunteer
Get involved with projects and groups on campus and in the community.
Water
Hydration is key! Not to get into a science lesson but...water helps keep your joints moving, carries nutrients and oxygen to cells, boosts energy and so much more. Don't deprive your body of something it needs to function.
Xtra curricular
Get involved on campus and join one of UW-Stout’s many clubs and organizations.
YOLO
“You only live once”, complete your degree and pursue your dream career, but have so much fun doing it. College only lasts so long, soak up every moment and memory you can while you are here!
Zzzz...
Sleep is vital to keeping your energy up throughout the day, don’t skip out on it. Late-night study sessions can be effective, but don't forget to take a nap or two throughout the day to reenergize yourself.
