How to Apply as a Reentry Student
If you're reentering UW-Stout, it's important to determine your student type to understand the specific application requirements. We welcome two types of reentry students:
Undergraduate Reentry Students
If you haven't earned transferable credits from any postsecondary institution since you last attended UW-Stout, our application process is designed to seamlessly facilitate your return. You do not need to pay any application fee, submit your high school transcripts, or submit your ACT/SAT score. Just complete the UW System application and review the additional application requirements.

Additional Reentry Student Admission Requirements
There is no hard-set application deadline for reentry students. Applications will be accepted through December for our spring semester, or early August for our fall semester. We do encourage you to submit your application by the following recommended deadlines so that everything else can happen in a timely manner.

Spring Semester | November 1 | Late December |
Fall Semester | March 1 | Early August |
Readmission Circumstances:
- If you were in good standing or on academic probation when you left UW-Stout, you may be readmitted in the same status.
- If you are reapplying after being academically dismissed from UW-Stout, you may be readmitted on academic probation. You are required to submit a letter of appeal with your application.
- If you are reapplying after being academically dismissed from UW-Stout, note that Admissions follows the readmission timeline at UW-Stout:
- One semester must lapse after first occurrence of academic dismissal.
- Two years must lapse if academically dismissed, readmitted, and failed a second time to earn the required grade point average.
Some of our programs are especially rigorous. In addition to the standard application, these majors require that applicants meet extra requirements such as submitting a portfolio or earning a higher GPA.
